Davis and Calvert Set for Season Opener at COTA

Feb. 29 2016

Phoenixville, PA – Calvert Dynamics is back for a second season of Pirelli World Challenge competition as the 2016 campaign will begin this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas for Andrew Davis and Preston Calvert in a pair of Phoenix Performance-prepared Porsches.

Davis, a sports car champion, will drive for the team’s new GT program in a recently-delivered Porsche 991 GT3-R. Calvert will be back to improve upon a solid rookie season in the GT Cup category in the No. 77 991 GT3 Cup car. Both drivers are three weeks removed from a successful pre-season shakedown test at Sebring International Raceway.

The cars have been meticulously prepared in Phoenix’s Pennsylvania race facility, and sport a matching car-specific livery set.

Circuit of the Americas opens the season in style, as the flowing road course is the annual host location for the United States Grand Prix.

Although Davis has been racing for nearly two decades, the 38-year-old Lilburn, Georgia resident is making his Pirelli Challenge debut this weekend at COTA.

“I am beyond excited to be making my Pirelli World Challenge debut this weekend at COTA,” said Davis. “Since this is just our first race, we are going to focus on maximizing our performance as a team unit.  We are still in a learning phase, but I feel strongly that the team has put in the work to ensure a competitive package. I have been given a great opportunity this year to spend time behind the wheel of multiple GT3 race cars.  Coming off several days of testing at Sebring International Raceway has certainly got me in the right mindset to make a strong debut at COTA.”

Calvert is coming off a 35 race season in 2015, where he raced both GT Cup and GTS entries for Phoenix American Motorsports. He followed that up with a podium run at the 2015 SCCA Runoffs at Daytona, and also recently contested a number of SCCA Majors events in January in Florida. Calvert will concentrate on his GT Cup Porsche for 2016 and hopes to improve upon his best finish of fourth that came in 2015.

“We come into the first weekend of the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge season at COTA with a brand new GT3 car, and a new configuration of the Calvert Dynamics / Phoenix Performance team personnel,” said Calvert. “We know that Joe Aquilante, Andrew Aquilante and Kurt Rezzetano have both cars fully prepared and ready to take the track on the test day, and the experience we gleaned from our test days at Sebring have given us the opportunity to perform well in this first race weekend.  I’m hopeful that I can improve my times and finishing positions from last year’s races at COTA, as it was my first race weekend in the GT3 Cup car.

“I have the benefit of already knowing the track this year, and many more hours in this car with excellent coaching from Andrew Davis, but the competition in this class is very stiff, with the best GT3 Cup drivers in the country participating, so I have my work cut out for me.”
